PANS/PANDAS
PANS/PANDAS is an autoimmune, neuroinflammatory brain disorder that affects cognitive function and behavior. At Wave on Wave Health, we treat the cause of the neuroinflammation to restore optimal functioning. Causes could be infections, toxins, and nutrient imbalances. This takes a whole systems approach to restore immune function.

PANS/PANDAS
PANS (“Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome”) is a clinically defined disorder characterized by the sudden onset of obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCD) or eating restrictions.
PANDAS (“Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections”) is a subset of PANS. PANDAS is clinically associated with Group A Streptococcus infection (GAS).
Did you know?
PANS and PANDAS are both autoimmune neuroinflammatory diseases brought on by a “trigger” – infectious or toxic – which overrides the natural immune processes and produces abnormal activation of the immune system and subsequent immune attack on brain cells. Genetics, lifestyle and exposures all play a role in the development of PANS/PANDAS. It is estimated that 1 in 200 children in the USA have a PANS/PANDAS.
Symptoms of PANS/PANDAS
- anxiety
- sensory amplification or motor abnormalities
- behavioral regression
- deterioration in school performance
- mood disorder
- urinary symptoms
- sleep disturbances
- obsessions or compulsions
- tics
- aggression: rage, self injurious behavior
- sensory dysregulation: light, sound and/or pain
- motor abnormalities: handwriting deterioration, piano fingers, tics, or motor hyperactivity
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – PANS/PANDAS
What is the cause of PANS/PANDAS?
The cause of PANS / PANDAS is linked to toxic or infectious triggers Group A strep (GAS) being one of those triggers. However, there are other causes such as other infections like mycoplasma, herpes, cytomegalovirus, parasitic infection and toxicities such as mold and mycotoxins, glyphosate, and heavy metals that are found commonly in children diagnosed with PANS/PANDAS. Optimizing cellular functioning through diet and gut health, addressing overloads (toxins/infections), nutrient deficiencies and imbalances can get you or your child on the right track to health restoration and optimal functioning.
What are typical treatments for PANS/PANDAS?
Conventional treatments include antibiotics, steroids, and NSAIDS like ibuprofen to calm down the immune reactivity and treat the underlying infections. At Wave on Wave Health, we take a combined approach, to include the aforementioned, if needed, but our main focus is on addressing the cause i.e. underlying toxicities and infections. We utilize varying therapies to get the body working together again combined with treatment to address underlying nutrient deficiencies, imbalances, and overloads and enhancing detoxification.
How do I figure out what factors in my life are contributory to my PANS/PANDAS diagnosis?
A personalized lifestyle plan is imperative, history evaluation as well as in-depth biomarker analysis looking for imbalances, overloads and deficiencies accompanied with accurate treatment to get you on the right track to restoring your families health.
